County jail medical care provider sued for wrongful death

In New Mexico, people who are in jail or prison and entitled to proper health care. Some facilities, however, may fail to follow protocol with their inmates. When this happens, serious illness or death may occur.

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Correct Care Solutions, a health care company that provides services at a county jail. The lawsuit blames the company for the death of a 56-year-old woman who died in her cell. The director for the county jail says that all staff follow proper medical protocol with the inmates. Additionally, a state required grand jury determined that the woman’s death was not the result of any criminal wrongdoing.

In the lawsuit, the daughter of the woman who died alleges that Correct Care Solutions provided deficient medical services. Additionally, the daughter points to a letter written by her mother while in jail stating that she was not being given her heart or lung medication. The woman underwent a triple-bypass heart surgery in 2006 and had a history of health problems. Three days after she was arrested for selling prescription drugs to an undercover officer, she was found unresponsive in her jail cell.

The loss of a loved one can be difficult to deal with, particularly when the loss was caused by the negligent actions of another person. If you have lost a loved one due to a medical mistake, you may be entitle to compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses, and pain and suffering. An attorney may be of assistance in this area.
