Prescription errors shouldn’t ever happen

Medication errors can almost always be prevented. One error that might occur is a patient receiving the full strength of a drug that must first be diluted. Sometimes, the issue is that the patients don’t get the drugs for which they are being billed.

Anyone who is receiving medications from a pharmacy or while in the hospital needs to double-check the drugs they are taking just to be sure they are correct. While the onus is on the pharmacists and other medical professionals, patients can never be too safe when it comes to their health.

We realize that most patients aren’t medical professionals. Instead, they are ordinary people who count on the doctors, nurses and pharmacists to keep them safe. Still, anyone who takes medications should know what they look like, what dosage they take, how often they take them and for what condition they are prescribed

Some medication errors involve adverse reactions and interactions. This possibility is why doctors and anyone who handles medications in an official capacity need to exercise due diligence and take complete patient histories. Medical professionals must ask about allergies and prior drug misadventures. Patient lives could otherwise be in jeopardy, and this is a completely preventable medication error.

The injuries that the patients can suffer when they don’t get appropriate medications can be life threatening. These victims can seek compensation for the damages they incur due to the medical professionals’ negligence.

Survivors of those who succumb to medical malpractice also have rights to seek compensation for the loss of their loved one. This is especially true when the deceased individual was the family’s primary wage-earner.
